The Force Unleashed - Greatest game ever?

Now that the power of gaming graphics has risen to the point that games are blurring the lines of reality entertainment, one has to ask … could LucasArts “The Force Unleashed” be the greatest game ever? Designed with three different simulation technologies, The Force Unleashed is being designed to push the envelope in Xbox 360, Wii, and Playstation 3 consoles. And judging by the video below that talks about the tech behind the game, it just may be.
The game’s premise is a simple one. The gamer is Darth Vader’s secret apprentice and after much training, the Force has unleashed incredible powers in this padawan learner. Designed around three major simulation technologies, TFU is more than a game, it may actually be a Force simulation. Utilizing the Havok physics engine, designers are able to move an amazing amount of detail within the scenario. The result is the ability to move a great number of objects on screen at once. Great if you’re using the force to push back a hoard of destroyer droids. Euphoria, is the technology that gives animated characters their individuality. They reaction to what’s happening around them and insures that no two reactions are the same. Finally, Digital Molecular Matter (DMM) simulates the substance of an object in the scene and make it behave like it would in the real world. Glass shatters like glass, metal bends like metal, wood splinters as it should. Coupling this with Euphoria and the game environment reacts as it would if it were real life.
Add to this the hopeful promise of a Lightsaber Wii controller, and the result is that the Force Unleashed could be more simulation than game. And that begs the question … will The Force Unleashed be the greatest game ever? Well, at least until they make a better one.

Rainbow Six Vegas PS3 Case Mod

Now this is definitely one of the cooler case mods to have graced our pages, especially one that does not involve a PC of any sort but Sony’s PS3 console instead. This case mo was inspired by the Rainbow Six Vegas game, disguised to be a casino tower that one might actually mistake it to be the Wynn. I wonder whether anyone is going to come up a different variation considering that the Wynn’s second tower is nearly complete. This PS3 comes with colorful, bright LEDs along with a tiny Eiffel Tower to signify Paris, a pyramid for Luxor, and little folk to complete the setup.

Download speeds upto 1.2Gb/sec

Granted, most of us here would turn our noses up at receiving in-home broadband via satellite -- after all, cable and DSL seem to be treating most of us quite alright -- but Japan is hoping to provide access to more regions in Asia-Pacific with its recently launched "Kizuna". The domestically developed H-2A rocket carrying the satellite, "Kizuna," was launched Saturday evening from the southern island of Tanegashima. The satellite, equipped with two large multi-beam antennas, separated from the rocket and successfully entered its intended orbit 175 miles from Earth, JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) said in a statement.
The experimental satellite is not yet intended for commercial use, but if all goes well, it will enable super high-speed data transmissions "of up to 1.2 gigabytes per second" at a low cost across Japan and 19 other locales in Southeast Asia. Unfortunately, we've no idea when it will escape the bondage of testing and actually be put to good use, but at least Japan's well on its way to actually establishing that wireless island, eh?

Play MP3s through your car horn

It is now possible to play MP3s through your car horn. ThinkGeek is selling this device for $299.99 (£153). The HornTones has 256 mb of MP3s and has a USB slot to update the tunes. You can assign 10 triggers to play different tones. This does not replace your normal car horn but rather works along with it.

Big in 2008 - Sony PSP Phone

Sony Magazine has sent PSP fans' hearts racing with a line in the latest issue about the much-fabled PSP Phone. "A new PSP-style phone is apparently in development," it writes.
Now that mobile phone gaming is a serious possibility, it’s time Sony licensed its last mega-brand to Sony Ericsson: enter the PlayStation Phone.
The PSP Phone wouldn’t fall into the same form-factor trap as other gaming mobile phones. It would have a cool dual-slider opening mechanism. Slide the screen to the right and an analogue joystick is revealed, similar to the PSP's.
Slide it left and you have a full mobile phone keypad. It’d also have a pair of shoulder buttons and the iconic PlayStation four-button layout.
A 3in screen would make a nice display with the same 480x272 resolution as the PSP and all storage will be on M2 memory cards, not UMD. No word on pricing and availaiblity yet.
